Is the Neighbourhood Medical Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic the right service for me?

Eligibility criteria for this clinic reflect some conditions of the grant funding and also the aims of the National Action Plan for Endometriosis.

You do not have to have a pre-existing diagnosis of endometriosis to attend the clinic, but must have either pelvic pain or other symptoms that may be due to endometriosis.

Eligibility Criteria

You must have have one of the following conditions/ medical problems:

  • A previous diagnosis of endometriosis with pain that is not adequately managed  OR possible symptoms of endometriosis that have not been fully investigated

  • OR persistent pelvic pain for more than 5 days per month that has not been fully investigated or is not adequately managed by team including a GP, physiotherapist and other specialists/ allied health providers.

  • You must be a current resident of Queensland to avail of our services. Each state has federally funded endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics.

The following exclusion criteria apply:

  • Those with endometriosis/pelvic pain that is well managed or who already have a care team in place seeking regular GP care only.

  • Period pain lasting 1-2 days only that is easily managed with medications such as panadol and other simple painkillers and does not impact school, work, exercise or other activities of daily life.

  • Women with known or suspected endometriosis who are seeking surgery (laparoscopy) only and do not want a holistic/ team approach including lifestyle changes, medications if appropriate, physiotherapy or other allied health input, with specialist referral if needed. (Your own GP can refer you directly to a local gynaecologist)

  • Fertility concerns without pain: please see your own GP for a referral to an appropriate service

  • Current pregnancy - we do not offer services to manage pelvic pain during pregnancy

How can I access this clinic?

You can refer yourself to the endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic directly by filling out the referral form here (see the button below) and returning it by post, fax or email.

Your GP can also refer you to this clinic by sending a referral letter via Medical Objects to Neighbourhood Medical Pelvic Pain Clinic. Please make an appointment with your regular GP if you want to avail of this option – it can also be useful to ask for an up to date health summary with all your diagnoses and a list of medications.

Making an appointment

Our clinical team will triage all referrals to decide if our clinic provides the right type of service to suit your needs and will contact you with an offer of an initial appointment. We will then send you some forms to fill out to help us plan your care.

You cannot book online for this clinic and must wait to be contacted. If you are not eligible, you will receive notification from the clinic.

What we can’t offer

What we can’t offer is a quick route to surgery or fertility services. We know that surgery is not always what you need or want. If a gynaecology referral is required, we have a network of reliable and knowledgeable colleagues. While we will always consider your wishes around fertility as a part of your plan, this clinic is not designed to provide access to fertility services.

Clinic Funding/ Fees

In order to maximise access to our clinic, there is no cost for your initial assessment visit or any nurse follow up visits. GP visits will be bulk billed for concession card holders and those under 18 years of age. Private fees will apply to other patients (as per fee table).

A limited number of fully funded visits are available with allied health providers including specialised pelvic physiotherapy and exercise physiology. Educational resources and ongoing nurse support will also be provided with no out of pocket charge.
